10 Reasons for Discharging a Battery!

A dead car battery can be annoying, but it can also be avoided. To help prevent a dead battery, you first have to know what causes one. So, put those jumper cables aside, and check out these ten things that could explain why your car battery keeps dying:

1. Short circuit in the electrical system
In the event of a short circuit, a large amount of electricity is absorbed by the battery in a very short time and is converted into heat. Pay attention to the battery or change it after repair at a body shop.

2. Forgotten vehicle & passenger lights on
Vehicle lights consume a large amount of electricity, so you should always turn them off after parking your vehicle, before turning off.

3. Auxiliary heating system
If the auxiliary heater fan is not turned off in the event of reduced voltage, the battery will suffer a total discharge. This also happens when the battery used is too small.

4. Defective alternator
If the battery is not being charged by the dynamo while driving it will be completely discharged as it is the only source of energy.

5. Defective dynamo regulator (automatic).
If the regulator (or automatic) of the dynamo is faulty, it is very likely that exhaust discharge will occur as a consequence of insufficient charging or overcharging of the battery.

6. Control unit problem
If the control units are not turned off when the engine is turned off, they continue to draw electricity, causing a drain on the battery.

7. Retrofitting of additional electrical equipment
Additional electrical equipment, such as heated seats, alarm, etc., generally absorb electrical energy and, very quickly, cause the battery to discharge.

8. Installing the wrong type of battery
Defective / old batteries should always be replaced with new ones of the same type or higher capacity several times, so as not to reduce the useful life of the battery.

9. Short distance routes
During short trips, more electricity is consumed than the dynamo can provide. Therefore, we recommend that you avoid using unnecessary equipment (heated seats, audio systems, etc.) in winter.

10. Radio, TV, DVD, fridge
Radios, navigation systems and other entertainment devices consume large amounts of electricity and can cause the battery to drain completely if it is not sufficiently charged. Of course they want special type of batteries anyway.
