8 Tips to Extend a Car Battery’s Life!

Every car battery has a lifespan. The typical car battery will last about 2 to 5 years; however, some people find themselves changing their car batteries much sooner than that. While car batteries do have a fixed calendar life, there are ways for you to prevent them from dying earlier than they should. Here are 8 tips on how to extend the life of your car battery:

1) Have the battery voltage, charge level and cranking power, as well as the electrical losses of your vehicle checked by your car electrician at regular intervals.

2) If you decide to stop using your car for any reason, we recommend that you remove the battery. SOS: Store it in a cool place & it charges continuously!

3) Have the battery inspected at least twice a year at specialist electrical or auto repair shops - once a month during winter (freezing conditions) & summer (heat) especially in the case of older batteries.

4) Make sure that the battery is firmly fixed in the battery case and that the metal parts of the battery are threaded and the terminals are very well tightened.

5) As far as possible, avoid exhausting the battery (which can be caused, for example, by the photo left on, etazers, radio, etc.). Don't forget that the alarm is an "energy dracula" for your battery. It reduces its life span.

6) Depress the clutch when starting the vehicle, as this reduces the resistance of the starter and, by extension, the consumption of electricity.

7) Turn off all unnecessary equipment, such as radio, air conditioner or auxiliary heating system, before starting the vehicle & before turning off.

8) After a short period of vehicle immobility, remove the battery and connect it to an electronically controlled charger.
